Ferport, Vetrella: "Regione Committed to Rescuing Company and Develop Logistics"

Regional Minister for Transport and Production Activities of Campania Sergio Vetrella commented on the Ferport crisis: “It has been long time since Regione has been deeply committed to finding a solution to save Ferport, the company responsible for train operations in the Port of Naples, together with its workers, through a difficult action aimed at really developing the rail logistic transport, giving a long term outlook. This is why we are really surprised by the statements released by a representative of the Fit Cisl who, instead of supporting the action we started, criticise the Memorandum of Understanding that we are trying to sign, and that is a first step to clarify and solve the situation making workers more secure”.

He added: “Everyone should wonder how it is possible that goods rail transport from and to the Port of Naples has been reduced almost to zero over the last years, so much that the only company that handles the operations inside the Port, namely Ferport, will have to be put into liquidation. This is even more serious if we consider the big public investments, both past and current, aimed at developing the logistic network, composed of ports, interports, connection infrastructures, and the negative and unbearable effects, such as pollution resulting from a transport that currently is only on road.”

Regional Minister concluded: “In order to reach a successful agreement, we asked and obtained, together with President Caldoro, that the partners’ Meeting of Ferport will be open until next 25 October in order to conclude any further necessary examination and to make a final decision. The statements of the Fit Cisl representative that give for granted the bankruptcy of the company are then completely groundless. These statements only generate dangerous unnecessary alarms among Ferport workers and their family, already deeply affected by this situation; furthermore, they are not even helpful, but rather, they hinder the current dispute solution process".
