Gulf of Naples, Acapulco Jet on its way to Naples - Ischia route

Regional Administration for Transport of Campania informs that, upon request of Regional Minister Vetrella, Caremar started procedures to rent the “Acapulco Jet” catamaran owned by the Lauro Group.

From next Monday, 28 January, as long as needed, the new means will replace on the Naples-Procida-Ischia route the Caremar "Aldebaran" hydrofoil, that is currently undergoing maintenance works. The Acapulco Jet can carry up to 355 passengers and has a maximum speed of 34 knots.

Regional Minister for Transport Sergio Vetrella said: “I am very thankful to new Caremar Executive Officer Paolo Como, who immediately agreed on my request, in spite of an uncomfortable economic situation for the shipping company. Once more, we act promptly to solve an emergency that was creating disruptions for commuters of the two islands, as we did few days ago to re-start Medmar night journeys on the routes Pozzuoli – Procida – Ischia.

At the same time, since we deem Caremar as a key element in our connection network among the islands of the Gulf of Naples to ensure territorial continuity, this initiative is going to be backed up by those already implemented to protect the company, and, hence, citizens. Thus, after urging the Government to include in the Stability Law, an appropriate rule to extend the agreement until next 30 June – in order to ensure funding over the years, now we are committed to confirm legitimacy of contributions necessary to ensure services, meeting the assessments carried out by the European Union – Mr. Vetrella concluded.
