Law to Prevent and Fight Waste Burning

Law to Prevent and Fight Waste Burning

The law is the outcome of a work carried out together with organizations and associations of citizens and with the valuable help of Commissioner Subprefect Donato Cafagna, appointed to fight burning of waste. These are measures aimed at improving the protection of Campania citizens health and the environmental and landscape assets of the region. The Municipalities shall detect and prove the public and private areas concerned with the abandonment and burning of waste over the last five years, within ninety days from its entry into force. They will have the availability of surveys carried out by the administrative and monitoring authorities, following remarks of single citizens or associations, too. Those with building authorisations will have to prove the proper disposal of inert material resulting from demolitions. Laws are provided for safety measures implementation and prevention of abandonment of material containing asbestos.

Urban, rural and agricultural areas, both public and private, included in the register cannot have agricultural, production, building, tourism and trade uses until their compliance with health and environmental provisions is proven, on the grounds of detailed and adequate certificates issued by authorised laboratories. Finally, Regione is committed to promote local monitoring activities through the outstanding help of local voluntary associations.
