Remediation, 81 Million from Regione to Former Municipal Landfills
Following the approval by the Executive Board of the resolution that makes it possible to start the activity, Regional Minister of Regione Campania Giovanni Romano stated: “61 former municipal landfills will be reclaimed and recovered: they are no more operating and already included in the Register of Regional Remediation Plan since the environmental matrix contamination has already been proven”.
“The remediation will take place through the overbooking planning as for the financial availability of the Operational Objective 1.2 of the Campania Regional Operational Programme. This was made possible through the approval of the Regional Plan for Urban Waste and the Regional Plan of Remediation, regularly served to the European Union and positively judged by the European Authorities. This shows the clear resoluteness of President Caldoro and the Executive Board to face environmental remediation and recovery. As usual our deeds and actions speak for us”. The 61 concerned landfills join the 49 for which Regione had already planned measures for additional 61 million €. Municipalities and Provinces will be the implementing parties.
"This further effort of Regione joins the already implemented massive measures for environmental compensation, remediation activities and local recovery in the critical areas of the Provinces of Naples and Caserta. Many actions have already started and the tenders for the entrustment of works are underway. The 61 concerned landfills were already proven to be polluted after a characterisation study carried out by Arpac (Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Campania)”.
President Caldoro stated: "We heal deep wounds resulting from years of carelessness and distractions”.
Mr Caldoro concluded. “We carry on with actions. This is not easy, and the path, as I often recall, is long. But the resources and planning for environmental issues of this Executive Board are unprecedented for Regione Campania”.
