Soil Conservation, 5 Million € Works Approved

Soil Conservation, 5 Million € Works Approved

Regional Minister for Public Works and Soil Conservation of Campania Edoardo Cosenza, commissioner for hydrogeological instability in the Province of Salerno, approved a plan of urgent interventions for the implementation of safety settings of the Sele basin and more endangered areas already affected by remarkable floods.

The measure that backs up those already implemented has been published in today’s Official Journal of Regione Campania. 5 million and 229thousand € works for the soil conservation are envisaged and they are part of the sixth emergency plan.

Regional Minister pointed out: “The action in Capaccio, in the Province of Salerno, to prevent overflowing at the mouth of the Sele river is really remarkable, for approximately 1,100,000 Euros. In the approved plan, the following works are included: the recovery of the left bank of the Tusciano river in Battipaglia (300,000 €), the recovery of landslide in Laurito (298,000€), the restoration of the hydrological section of the Vallone Dei Dieci in Omignano, the La Mola creek in Giungano and La Calvagnola creek in Calvanico. More interventions will be carried out for the Sarno river in Scafati (150,000 €), San Marzano (two interventions for a total of 240,000 €), Nocera Inferiore (three interventions for a total of approximately 140,000 €). Works for the Amalfi Coast will be really remarkable. 250 thousand Euros will fund the unit of endangered areas on Statale 163: this is a key action for road safety with activities of inspection, verification, cleaning and removal of unstable masses near the road or the residential areas. A warning system for the hydrogeological risk of all entombed sections of riverbeds on the Amalfi Coast (Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Atrani, Amalfi and Positano) and of Cilento (Pisciotta, Futani and Sapri) will be tested. An innovation for the prevention of natural risks and, in particular, of hydrogeological instability phenomena with parallel warning systems able to report situations (such as those connected to entombed riverbeds) that could result in overflowing and very dangerous invasions of water and mud over the neighbouring territory".

Regional Minister Cosenza concluded: "The cost of this warning system, that is extremely useful in small villages, is 1 million and 800 thousand Euros. 580 thousand Euros will fund the civil protection monitoring rain system with new structures that double their existing network in the Amalfi Coast (with 8 more stations) and integrate the network of other areas in the Province of Salerno (with 3 stations in the Vallo di Diano and 9 in the Cilento area)".
