The Decree on “Land of Fires” Become Law. Caldoro: "Campania Won"

The Decree on “Land of Fires” has become law, following today’s Senate approval of the text already taken on by the Chamber.
President of Regione Campania Stefano Caldoro commented on the new law, looking at the next challenge: the amendment of national healthcare fund criteria. He stated: “The additional funds to face the emergency of the “Land of Fires” are not many. But the law is an important step, a victory of Campania, of citizens, of the Church and those institutions that worked to bring about a substantial shift. Now we expect harsh punishment for those industries of the North that poisoned our land”.
“From paragraph 34 of the law the second subparagraph has been implemented: that allowed the Government to release 25 million € in two years for prevention and screening activities. On the contrary, they chose to ignore the first paragraph referring to deprivation indexes. Due to this interpretation, 400 million each year will be taken off Campania. A paradox. If we consider this law as valid, it cannot be considered as such only for a part but as a whole”.
Mr Caldoro emphasized what is missing, namely “funds for remediation activities. Regione has allocated from 2010 300 million € but it’s not enough. The Government should play its part, too. On the other hand, it is inconsistent to implement such an important action without providing for a state aid”.
Moreover, concerning the lack of provision for specific resources to face the missed sale of Campania products due to the environmental emergency, President Caldoro underlined that “we will do even more, with 30 million € for agricultural and food businesses”.
