From 28 December, 2011 the Ministry of Finance will send citizens who have an expired healthcare card the new Health Insurance Card – National Service Card (TS-CNS). By 2016 this card will replace the old one.

This TS-CNS is a personal smart Card.

After its activation, that is currently voluntary, citizens will have the possibility to access the online service supplied by the Public Administration.

In the Campania region the new Card currently represents:

• The healthcare ID Card for patients who will access the National Healthcare services;
• The European Insurance Healthcare Card, which will ensure healthcare assistance for temporary staying abroad in Member States of the European Union, in Switzerland, in the EEA (European Economic Area) countries, in Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein;
• The tax identification Number issued by the Agenzia delle Entrate (Italian Revenue Agency);
• A tool to access online Public Administration services
