Unesco Major Project Gets Go-Ahead by European Commission

The European Commission has approved the Major Project for the Historic Centre of Naples – promotion of the Unesco site, a 100 million € project.

This project will recover and upgrade notable monuments and buildings such as the Duomo, Gerolomini, Santa Maria La Nova, San Lorenzo Maggiore, Annunziata and Ascalesi, Incurabili, San Pietro a Majella, Santa Croce al Mercato, Monte dei Poveri as well as many ancient chapels of the inner city; it will also allow the recovery of Porta Capuana, the upgrading of squares and streets in the heart of Naples with the renovation of underlying utilities and infrastructures, the creation of grounds for citizens to use and enjoy, as well as telecommunication infrastructures.

Regional Minister Edoardo Cosenza, delegated by President Caldoro for the strategic coordination of Major Projects, is very satisfied with this outcome.

“The policy that focuses on a sector-related investment of funds supported by the Executive Board led by President Caldoro is awarded once more”. He concluded: “This project will give us the opportunity to recover a 230 thousand sq. metre land. Thanks to the synergy with the Municipality of Naples and the Superintendence of Public Works, we will carry on quickly to start shortly the first tenders”.
