Vallo di Diano Landslides, surveys on the “Provinciale 342”

Topographic surveys have started to verify the characteristics of the rocky cliff on the Provincial Road 342 where the Municipality of Sacco is, in the Province of Salerno. Surveys are carried out both with high-tech tools, such as laser scanners, able to deliver a complete scanning of the rocky cliff, and with traditional methods such as surveys performed on the cliffs by experienced geologists – rock climbers. Data will be used to plan final intervention for the mitigation of the collapse risk on that section of the provincial road 342.

Regional Minister for Public Works and Soil Conservation of Campania Edoardo Cosenza, commissioner for hydrogeological instability of the Province of Salerno said: “The tendering procedure, performed ensuring the utmost transparent criteria, has been completed and in two months from the entrustment of works, occurred this morning, it will be possible to obtain the real picture of the situation” .

He added: “To ensure these activities, we allocated 4 million 100 thousand Euros: funds are included in the resources available for the commissioner for hydrogeological instability of the Province of Salerno and have been found from the general expense savings of the Plan”.

He concluded: “The allocation is a clear sign to local populations who suffer from problems due to instability that is affecting the provincial road. The intervention will be carried out by the Regional Agency for Soil Conservation (Arcadis) that has already started the project activities in order to shorten times for intervention.
