Regione Campania is among the first to draft and approve the Plan to reduce waste at the source, giving adequate financial resources for it to be concretely implemented. 30 million € will be available for Municipalities to implement reduction actions.
The Plan for the reduction of waste aims at avoiding a surplus production.
The Plan includes some specific actions, in accordance with the type of material to promote re-use or ex-ante reduction of its production. For example, concerning organic waste, the plan aims at removing this part of waste from the landfill disposal, both through a reduction of the organic fraction at the source and by raising awareness among citizens for a proper waste management.
The specific Action aims at fulfilling this aim through the supply of contributions for Municipalities with a population with less than 30,000 inhabitants for the purchase of equipment for local composting or by streamlining the management of public canteens or kitchens.
As for paper, the aim is to reduce its waste in public offices and raising awareness for a better use of resources. Similar actions involve the reduction of packaging for solid and liquid food and the promotion of bulk products and the re-use of their boxes. Contributions for reusable diapers and public aids for the purchase of washable nappies for midwifery units of Campania hospitals for their delivery to the newly mothers and incentives for the use of drinkable water to set up water kiosks are only some of the measures.
This is a plan to promote “little daily actions” aimed at changing our habits, starting from useless packaging.
Sharing contents and strategic options with the main institutional stakeholders and the several sector operators has been the added value of the Plan drafting work.
The Plan has already been approved by the Partnership Taskforce.
