Garibaldi Station, Caldoro: “A Major Work Designed for City and Region”

New stop in Piazza Garibaldi. Line 1 of the Naples Underground reaches the Central Station. This morning, the opening ceremony has taken place and has been attended by President of Regione Campania Stefano Caldoro, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Maurizio Lupi, Mayor of Naples Luigi De Magistris.
 

First stop at the Toledo Station, recently defined as the most beautiful of Europe. By train, then, the Governor, the Minister and the Mayor have reached the new stop in Piazza Garibaldi. The station has been designed by French Architect Dominique Perrault and it is located in the centre of the square, approximately 40 metres underground. The installations inside are works by Michelangelo Pistoletto.

After a test-use of approximately twenty days, at the end of December, the underground will run every 7/8 minutes, and from Piazza Garibaldi, Piscinola will be reached in thirty minutes, without any change.

Five more kilometres of the Line 1 of the Underground of Naples will become operational and it will reach 19 kilometres with 17 stations thanks to the opening of the Garibaldi Station.

Mr Caldoro pointed out: “This work had been left with no resources and we have been working together with Minister Lupi and the Municipality to find new funds. Regione has played a major part but it was necessary to give fresh air to close the ring that will reach the Airport. A major work designed for the city and the region”.

Minister Lupi said: “Finally, the central station, where trains come from all over Italy and the high speed route arrive, has been connected to the city centre. The national transport matches the municipal and local sector. This is the outcome of a remarkable cooperation among institutions”.
