Healthcare, Hospice of Salerno Opened

“La Casa di Lara” Hospice of the Local Health Unit of Salerno, an option to the home care mainly for patients affected by advanced end-stage neoplasia who have no indication for further treatments aiming at the improvement or stabilization of the disease, has been opened.

The four-floor facility, located in the park of the “Da Procida” Hospital of Salerno has 12 accommodations and one Day Hospice room on a surface of approximately 5,000 sq. metres. The 12 independent accommodations are composed of single rooms with all commodities: en suite bathroom, kitchen, telephone, air conditioning, TV, mini-bar and one bed for a relative or a caregiver.
President of Regione Campania Stefano Caldoro, Mayor of Salerno Vincenzo De Luca, and General Manager of the ASL (Local Health Authority) of Salerno Antonio Squillante attended the opening ceremony, too.

Mr Caldoro stated: "Over the next days, funds and re-start of turnover procedures will be at the core of our battle. We have approximately 10 thousand employees less than the national standard among several healthcare positions; this is unbearable, other regions have higher rates, they ask us to fulfil standards that cannot be guaranteed with these staff figures”. He concluded: “We need the automatic go-ahead at 50% for the restart of turnover. We do not accept 15% with thousands of quibbles”.
