Food Education: "Fruit in Schools"

The European Community financed the 4th edition of the project called “ Fruit in schools” that aims at teaching kids the importance of fruit and vegetables. This project, supported by the Regional Campania Administration for Agriculture through the temporary association of companies “Benessere a colori” supplied our 679 participating regional schools with approximately 1,088 tonnes of fruit for the current school year and more than 130 thousand kids were involved.

The project has been shown and explained this morning at the Conference Room of the Isola A6 in the Centro Direzionale of Naples in front of an audience of children. Daniela Nugnes Regional Minister for Agriculture stated: “Fruit is brought to schools not because it is a duty to eat it but it is supplied to show how good it is and how wide the variety of products to choose among is”.

Moreover, the project envisages a real education food path including visits to teaching farms. This is how it is possible to see with your eyes how plants produce and grow fruits – Ms. Nugnes added.

Diego Bouché Director of the Regional Campania school office attended the meeting and emphasized that ”Learning to eat land products already when you are at school is the best way to teach new generations the rules of good food, to look more healthy and beautiful”.
