Bad Weather, Regional Civil Protection at Work

Regional Minister for Civil Protection of Campania Edoardo Cosenza, who is in constant contact with the operational structures of his Regional Administration, stated: “The operations Room of the Regional Civil Protection Agency, the Agency for the Soil Conservation and the Civil Engineer Department are working to monitor constantly the evolution of the situation and to carry out on spot inspections after the heavy rainfalls that affected the region”.

He explained: “Particularly, teams from Arcadis and the Civil Engineer Department, upon request of the regional operations Room, are carrying out inspections, according to the problems detected. First interventions concerned the schools: they have tried to solve, together with fire brigades and volunteers, all the problems concerning the flood of school buildings and they evacuated three of them (in Nocera Inferiore, Castel San Giorgio and Lettere)”.

“Currently, the situation in the area of Sarno and Nocera, particularly in Castel San Giorgio where the river bed erosion caused many floods, and in Nocera, where the river bed “Comune nocerino” had two sections of the banks collapsing that caused an overflow, is being carefully monitored”.

Mr Cosenza concluded: “At the moment, an Arcadis team is reaching the Municipality of Positano, after the this summer fire residuals slide. Considering the weakness of the area of Nocera and Sarno, the Major Project Sarno River is increasingly important, since it will finally sort the situation. This is why, together with Arcadis, we are pushing as much as possible the final drafting of the project, in order to call for the tenders and implement the works”.
