Education, Debate with the Government: Few Resources for Schools

Right to Education as main priority. And the main point in the debate that took place at Palazzo Santa Lucia between the Regional Ministers of Education and Scientific Research, Caterina Miraglia and Guido Trombetti, and the new Ministry of Education and Scientific Research Maria Chiara Carrozza.

Attending the meeting, the undersecretary Marco Rossi Doria and the chief of the Cabinet Office Luigi Fiorentino.

The Regional Ministers have stressed to the Minister the necessity to face the problem of the exiguity of the resources destined to the right to education, considered that the number of scholarships issued to the worthy people and to those in need is ridiculous, while the number of beds is absolutely insufficient.

The issue of right to education has also been object of the discussion in relation to the necessities coming from the school world, in particular in relation to the old infrastructural problems.

In particular, the Regional Minister Caterina Miraglia presented a long list of problems of the school world, both concerning infrastructures and the high drop-out rate, which in Campania reaches alarming levels.

Room for discussion also for the innovative experience realised by the Regional Administration for University of Regione Campania with the PhDs in firms, and the necessity to pay special attention to PhDs issues, in relation with the quality of course offerings

The Minister Carrozza found the experience of PhDs in firms very interesting, also expressing her appreciation for the project of the San Giovanni a Teduccio’s Campus, which will host University, CNR (National Research Council) and firms.

The Regional Minister Trombetti also mentioned to the Minister the necessity to accelerate the transfer of economic resources that have already been allocated, for an amount of about 20 million Euros, necessary to finish and furnish the Faculty of Medicine in Scampia.

At the same time, the Regional Minister Caterina Miraglia expressed the necessity to prepare a programme aimed at the creation of subsidies for the maintenance and management of university halls of residence.
