Festival of Philosophy in Magna Graecia – V Edition

The V Edition of the Festival of Philosophy in Magna Graecia will take place from 18 to 21 April. This year’s theme is “Disclosure – Alétheia”. Last autumn 1550 high school students coming from all parts of Italy participated in the first phase.

A series of initiatives is scheduled, taking place in the archaeological area of Elea-Velia, Borgo di Castellabate, Ascea and Casalvelino: philosophical dialogues, theatrical philosophical walks, authentic laboratories, theatre, music, screenwriting and meditation, concerts, meetings with figures of the worlds of science and philosophy.

The Festival, whose launch has been attended by the Regional Minister of Culture and Education of Regione Campania Caterina Miraglia, the president of the park of Cilento Amilcare Troiano, and the mayors of Ascea Mario Rizzo and of Casalvelino, Mario Giordano, is sponsored by the cultural association "Festival della Filosofia in Magna Grecia", presided over by Giuseppina Russo and directed by Iriana Marini.

Participated in the organisation the members of the scientific committee Salvatore Ferrara and Annalisa Di Nuzzo, and the associations "ArteFia" with the screenwriter and director Vincenzo Maria Saggese, and "Montanari Ripe Rosse". From the first edition in 2008 until today, about 5 thousand students coming from all Italy participated in the event, which retraces the places dear to Parmenides and Zeno.

"We decided to sponsor this initiative – the Regional Minister Miraglia said – in order to value our cultural and landscape heritage in all Italy. An experience of great interest, which we want to relaunch in Campania in particular, making aware the regional school direction, in order to let teachers and students know the possibilities offered by the festival of philosophy”.
