GPs, Agreement Approved

President of Regione Campania Stefano Caldoro, as special commissioner for the continuation of the recovery plan of the healthcare sector approved the supplementary regional Agreement of GPs (Primary Care, Care continuity and service medicine).

The measure has been adopted in agreement with Head of the Department for Healthcare and Natural Resources Ferdinando Romano and supported by deputy special commissioner Mario Morlacco.

This draft arrives after 10 years from the last decentralised agreement ratification for GPs and it is the first action for a real and effective planning of primary treatments.

The document gives the GPs useful tools for the computerization of the communication processes within the primary treatment system; it lays the foundations to enhance care services for citizens through new forms of team work organization for family doctors, and for a better use of economic resources, and it also gives the GPs more responsibilities for the governance of primary treatments.

President Caldoro pointed out: “Above all, the agreement expresses the willing of Regione Campania to really involve general medicine using its skills to renew the regional primary treatment system. This first step is necessary since it will bring shortly a concrete answer for the chronically weak system that hospitals cannot give on their own due to their nature”.

He added: “The mutual commitment of Regione Campania and GPs strengthens the resolution and the idea to make Campania citizens enjoy a more and more universal, appropriate, accessible and fair healthcare system”. President of Regione Campania Stefano Caldoro concluded: “We will not stop when facing problems; on the contrary, we will reply concretely every day”.
