President of Regione Campania Stefano Caldoro commented on the remarks of the PM who emphasised the future non-sustainability of the National Healthcare System: “I agree on the worries expressed by PM Mario Monti concerning the National Healthcare System. It has been a long time since the Italian regions have been reporting about the serious risk and increasing difficulties. The situation is difficult for the whole Country, but awful for the most vulnerable areas”.
The President concluded: “There are territorial unbearable differences arising from historical situations but also fuelled by a resource transfer system that hinders the South. The decreased transfers combine with the balance problems due to less earnings, that on the contrary settle the care levels in the richer areas of the country. The Government along with the Regions shall immediately share and agree on the new Pact of Health to ensure fair and equal care conditions for all citizens”.
