From the 2nd of August and on the following weekends until November, tourism in Campania will offer new emotional routes. You will also have the chance to admire the ancient city of Herculaneum at night from above and to experience the emotion of that tragic August of 79 AD: this is “Buried Stories of Herculaneum” of Campania >Artecard, in cooperation with the Consortium Costa del Vesuvio.
Today, Campania Regional Minister for Tourism and Cultural Heritage Pasquale Sommese, Gregorio Angelini (from the MIBAC), Director of the ruins Maria Paola Guidobaldi, Francesca Maciocia (from the Scabec9), Luca Ferlaino (Consortium Costa del Vesuvio) and Ciro Cacciola (Director of the Mab Museum) have presented the initiative.
The idea is to make users enjoy a real show where real elements match virtual components, through performances carried out by the Cooperative Le Nuvole, and 3d reconstructions. The journey will start at the entrance of the ruins with eruption projections and shows in the teaching room. The audience will be guided by an archaeologist of the CoopCulture and will visit the Padiglione della Barca. Finally, they will reach Fornici, where the beach was with its shops that represented the last shelter for those who tried to escape the eruption by sea.
Tourism in Campania will be as fascinating as the Grand Tour. Campania Regional Minister for Tourism and Cultural Heritage Pasquale Sommese presented the new routes Campania Artecard “Herculaneum- Buried Stories” that will start on 2 August and on all weekends until 2 November, and reported: “With this night tour at the ruins of Herculaneum, we are presenting the first piece of the programme for 2013-2014 in the places of the Grand Tour of the XVIII century through visits to museums, archaeological sites enriched with emotional experiences, as occurred for the travellers of the past”.
Mr Sommese presented a programme of light shows, performances like in a theatre, meetings with artists, combination of historical sites and food excellence, and added: “The Grand Tour will affect remarkable sites such as Pompeii and the Royal Palace of Caserta, completed with visits and events to minor but really fascinating sites. We now want to allow operators to sell their tours six months before.”
Mr Sommese confirmed: “After the successful first edition of the Grand Gourmet meetings arranged by the EPT (Provincial Tourist Board) of Salerno, it will be repeated in the Province of Naples in autumn”. Through the combination of cultural heritage, traditional local food and tastings with local master chefs, next steps will be at the Paleochristian Basilicas of Cimitile and in the Phlegrean Fields.
Finally, Mr Sommese announced “five big events that will involve the provinces” confirming that Campania “is the first region to complete the procedure set forth by the law no. 106 for the tourist districts though the involvement of all the coastal Municipalities”.
