President of Regione Campania Stefano Caldoro signed eight supplementary deeds of the PIU EUROPA programme for medium cities of Campania at Palazzo Santa Lucia.
Regional Minister for Town Planning Marcello Taglialatela, Mayors of Aversa Giuseppe Sagliocco, Benevento Fausto Pepe, Herculaneum Vincenzo Strazzullo, Salerno Vincenzo De Luca, and Scafati Pasquale Aliberti, and Interim Town Administrators of Avellino Cinzia Guercio, Castellammare di Stabia Rosanna Bonadies, and Portici Pasquale Grasso attended the meeting.
Today’s agreement gives to the 8 Municipalities approximately 28 million and 613 thousand €, resulting from cost savings of the programme implementation. These resources will fund 20 more projects.
A look at the details:
1) Avellino receives approximately 3 million and 100 thousand € to fund the demolition and re-building of the former elementary school building in Bellizzi, the building of the multi-functional facility and the layout of Piazza Napoli, the layout and upgrading of the centre of Bellizzi area;
2) Aversa approximately receives 2 million €, to restore the Church of Spirito Santo, owned by the Municipality, in order to make it the headquarters of the Cimarosa Foundation;
3) Benevento approximately receives 6 million and 300 thousand €, that will fund 2 projects, namely the new arrangement and the connection of several small squares in Rione Libertà and the completion of Parco Verde;
4) Castellammare di Stabia approximately receives 2 million and a half, that will be spent for the works of the Municipal offices at the Ancelle building;
5) Ercolano receives 4 million and 300 thousand €, that will fund 3 projects: upgrading works of Corso Italia and via Aldo Moro; completion of urban and environmental upgrading of the new ruins entrance with implementation of green areas, design and lighting system; completion and recovery of Municipal buildings called ex Clinica Cataldo and Comando di PM to be assigned to the Lieutenancy of the Carabinieri Station;
6) Portici receives 2 million and 750 thousand €, to enhance architectural structures of Miglio d’Oro, in particular to recover the Palazzo dell’Opera Pia located in vico Ritiro, and to improve sea access from Corso Garibaldi, adjusting the railway underpasses of Gianturco, Bagnara, Camaggio and Catavone;
7) Salerno receives 7 million and 300 thousand € for 5 projects: design upgrading of the coastal area of Santa Teresa; restoration and completion of the former cinema Diana; completion works of Piazza della Libertà; integration of centralised video surveillance system for transport monitoring and crime and vandalism prevention; Santa Teresa Area – Piazza della Libertà – Torre Nord Est;
8) Scafati receives 434 thousand € for the upgrading of Quartiere Vetrai Lotto 1 cortile Ferraioli Corso Nazionale - Via Roma.
President Caldoro stated: “We give more resources for the development, based on concrete plans. A job that combined the effort to find funds with a careful planning focused on the needs of the whole area. One more step forward, we should continue along this path”.
Regional Minister Taglialatela pointed out: “We are entering the second stage of the Più Europa programme by allocating resources resulting from discounts of the amounts tendered. It is proven that we moved from the planning to the implementation and completion stage. In total, the 30 million € established by the supplementary deeds signed today with 8 Campania Municipalities will allow the Administrations concerned to carry out additional works, to supplement the already planned ones”.
Interim town Administrator of Avellino Guercio pointed out: “Più Europa is the first step for the implementation of a broader project. The implementation of the programme will commit the Municipality to a supervising and constant monitoring activity, entrusted to an ad hoc Office”.
Mayor of Aversa Sagliocco commented: “Today’s signature allows us to start a solution for a major issue such as the intermodal project, that is strategic to make the city better places to live in, thanks to the funds of Jessica project”.
Mayor of Benevento Pepe stated: “We allocate 4 million € for the upgrading of “Rione Libertà” and the restoration of “Parco Verde”, focusing on urban recovery.”
Interim town Administrator of Castellammare Bonadies said: “The two million and a half € will be used for the completion of the building “Palazzo delle Ancelle”, in order to allow the unification of all municipal offices in a single area, saving fees from private buildings rental.”
Mayor of Herculaneum Strazzullo said: “This is a remarkable action, considering that these funds will allow us especially to renew the inner cities, full of culture and history. The upgrading of this part of the city is a development driver for tourism, in spite of all the inescapable difficulties of this procedure. Thus, I am very thankful to President Caldoro, Regional Minister Taglialatela and the whole regional Administration for Town Planning that have been constantly a referral centre for us along this route”.
Interim town Administrator of Portici Grasso stated: “The Più Europa Programme has been extremely valuable in giving more visibility to the urban and architectural elements of the city and to ensure a further enhancement of quality of life in a city with one of the highest European population density. Besides a better visibility of the area, the upgrading of our assets will also offer better outlooks for the city’s economy, since Portici aims at becoming over time the city for leisure”.
Mayor of Salerno De Luca pointed out: “800 thousand € resources are for Jessica fund while the remaining 6 million and a half will be used to complete Piazza Libertà.”
Mayor of Scafati Aliberti stated: “400 thousand € to be invested in the inner city while awaiting for the final account reporting of the last tender for further funds”.
