Fincantieri, Patrol Boat "Diciotti" of Italian Coast Guard Launched

The second unit commissioned to Fincantieri by the Port Captaincies General Direction for the Italian Coast Guard has been launched in the shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia (Naples). The patrol boat ''Ubaldo Diciotti'' is the sister ship of ''Luigi Dattilo'' launched the last December and to be delivered by the upcoming summer. President of Regione Campania Stefano Caldoro, General Captain of  Port Captaincies – Coast Guard Felicio Angrisano and CEO of Fincantieri Giuseppe Bono together with its President Vincenzo Petrone took part in the ceremony

The boats "Diciotti" and "Dattilo" are innovative units, built to work at open seas in particularly bad sea and weather conditions and they will be used for research and rescue activities, for fire fighting and antipollution missions, as well as control centres for complex naval operations. With a length of 94 metres and a width of 16, their max speed is approximately 18 nodes, and a range of 3,000 nautical miles with a load displacement of about 3,600 tonnes. They can accommodate a crew composed of 38 people, with the possibility to board 60 additional people, among technicians and shipwrecked people.

The strength of the two patrol boats is the innovative “hybrid” propulsion system involving an auxiliary diesel-electric propulsion to be used at low and very low speeds needed during surveillance and control missions for long periods; this type of missions were impossible to carry out with traditional propulsion.

Mr. Caldoro stated: "Thanks to our struggling resistance, from the closing down announcements we got to today’s celebration where the shipyard of Castellammare together with its wokers have been acknowledged for their competence and team spirit”. We will continue to commit ourselves in ensuring such a great manufacturing tradition and in trying to bring in new orders. Today has been an extraordinary day - the President concluded.
