Soil conservation, as established by legislative decree no. 152/2006, includes a set of actions and activities related to the protection and safeguarding of territory, rivers, canals, lakes, lagoons, coasts and groundwater as well as their territories; these measures aim at reducing hydrological risks, mitigating geological instability–related events, streamlining use and management of water resources, promoting relevant environmental and landscape features.

The operational activity to protect our soil in Regione Campania falls under the responsibility of several Sectors that share complementary functions together with planning, programming, managing and maintaining functions held by Basin Authorities, Provinces, Upland and Reclamation Authorities.

Based on the territory knowledge, soil conservation aims at preventing hydrogeological instability-related events that could be dangerous for public and private safety, with the target of avoiding and minimizing damages resulting from these events.

Moreover, soil conservation policy is implemented through actions to protect the Campania coastal system that gathers unrivaled value landscape and precious historic heritage, and hosts a remarkable part of regional economic resources as well as one of the most important European tourist systems.
