Through the flight over the Cavaiola creek, the monitoring of the water and river system of the river Sarno has been completed with the aerial remote sensing system.
The action, that is part of the activities included in the agreement between Regione Campania (Regional Administration of the Environment) and the Harbour Masters – Coast Guard (Maritime Direction of Naples), led to monitor the area of the Solofrana creek in the past days.
Having considered the orography of concerned areas, several solutions, such as planes or helicopters have been used. In details, the flight over the Solofrana allowed to acquire an infrared thermal footage, already available after 24 hours for initial remarks, made with thermal Flir camera, Qwip model installed on an AW 139 helicopter.
The examination of footages found some criticalities that have been georeferenced through the Gps system integrated in the thermal camera and that will be checked on the ground by the Harbour Masters of Castellammare di Stabia.
Moreover, a night infrared thermal record has been made on the canal for a part of the Land of Fire concerned with abnormalities found both on the ground (ARPAC Campania Regional Agency for the Environmental protection) and from an aerial magnetic and radiometric surveillance (Mattm).
The first aerial mission of the last 19 December had the double aim of testing the method functioning and flying over the Phlegrean and Domitian coast, from the mouth of Volturno to the Gulf of Pozzuoli, with a more detailed examination of the neighbouring internal areas included in the perimeter of the Municipalities that are members of the Agreement for the Land of Fires. During that mission, some critical targets whose classification is being carried out for the required ground checks, have been found.
A priority has been given to the northern area of the Patria lake where thermal and other abnormalities already found exist.
Currently, a third remote sensing mission for the main course of the river Volturno and the river Calore in the Benevento area is being planned.
Regional Minister Giovanni Romano pointed out: “Through aerial remote sensing system the Regione Campania goes on monitoring its land. The work of the Regional Administration of the Environment will continue restlessly to protect all areas, especially those spoiled by unscrupulous offenders who made a complete mess of them.
