The Regional Ministry for the Environment of Regione Campania has planned the tender for the most urgent activities against the illegal phenomenon of waste burnings in the Provinces of Caserta and Naples affected by the problem.
“We are ready to spend the first 5 million Euros”, declared Giovanni Romano, Regional Minister for the Environment of Regione Campania. “In this way we are actually realizing – he said – the Regione’s commitments included in the Pact signed at the Prefecture with the Municipalities affected by the problem of the illegal waste fires, which considers, as a matter of fact, contrast actions against the burnings, also by means of acquisitions of infrastructures and advanced technologies for the operators engaged in the specific surveillance and fire control activities. The allocation of 5 millions is just one of the measures adopted by the regional administration for the territory concerned. The Bill that has recently been approved unanimously by the Environment Commission of the Regional Council and presented by the Regional Executive Board led by Caldoro was right on the fight to waste burnings”.
The tender is destined to the Municipalities of the Provinces of Naples and Caserta that signed the Pact, which will be able to present investment projects aimed at the fight against the burnings phenomenon through the implementations of systems for the control and protection of the environment. The proposals will have to deal with interventions for the acquisition, the implementation/enhancement of devices for the video surveillance and/or redevelopment of areas that have suffered abandonment and/or burning of waste and are now cleaned, aimed at the prevention of further abandonments through tree planting or re-greening, or enclosure.
Among the types of project actions included because considered admissible, there are also the activities of subsidiary surveillance, carried out though voluntary associations, civil protection and environmental guards legally recognized and working on the territory. “This is a tangible sign that acknowledges the dedication of local associations, in giving value to the sacrifice of many citizens, especially the young, who daily report and inform about illegal activities. This battle can be and has to be won also thanks to the productive cooperation between authorities and local communities”, Romano concluded.
